Ria Banerjee is a bright and tenacious defence advocate, with experience as sole and junior counsel in a wide range of serious crime cases.
Her practice includes murder, manslaughter, serious and organised crime, financial crime, firearms, drugs, serious violence, and sexual offences. Many of her cases have been serious multi-handed trials and she is experienced in managing and challenging expert and forensic evidence including Encrochat, probe and surveillance evidence.
She is highly skilled in identifying and advancing legal arguments and her preparation and attention to detail are outstanding. Ria works tirelessly in seeking the best outcomes for her clients. She has a no-nonsense approach to advice and is very good at establishing a rapport with both witnesses and opposing counsel which enables her to present the best-possible evidence for her cases.
Ria is reliable, diligent and extremely personable. She is able to adapt her style to suit the circumstances and is experienced in managing and cross-examining young and vulnerable witnesses. Ria recently completed a secondment to the Post Office Ltd, where she provided advice in relation to appeals in the ‘Horizon’ software case. She oversaw all internal aspects of post-conviction disclosure and liaised with the MoJ in the months prior to the introduction of legislation exonerating those convicted on the basis of ‘Horizon’ evidence.
She has also conducted review work in relation to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
